so, i decided to post my first entry about my year abroad in nancy, france. i arrived on a tuesday, august 30. i studied here last summer (2010) at université nancy 2 which is a public university here. i studied french for 5 weeks. so, i felt like i knew the city already and it wasn’t that hard of a transition from the states. i arrived in paris after a day of flying from pittsburgh-to-boston-to-reykjavik-to-paris. i boarded my train and arrived in nancy by the afternoon. two members of the student organization at the ICN met me at the train station and i was able to move into my studio apartment on rue jean lamour, which is north of downtown nancy, a part of the city that i was not too familiar with. anyways, i moved in, unsettled my things, took a 6 hour nap, woke up and had no idea what to do. i met up with stephanie and we went out with some other people for a drink at a local café. the next day, we started getting everything in order for our stay here. everything here is quite difficult. it’s very different than the states. the states is much more prompt than here because it takes awhile to complete things here. but anyways….integration week started and i met tons of people from all over the world such as: sweden, australia, cambodia, china, colombia, canada, mexico, argentina, russia, spain, germany, italy, etc. we went on a few trips such as europa park in germany & strasbourg, france. europa park was exciting, there were many different rides and i liked the roller coasters a lot.
it’s now my third week into the semester. i’ve been accustomed to many things already. examples such as, eating lunch/dinner for more than hour, being patient with everything here, the enjoyment in people watching, and…walking every fucking where. when i go back to the US next june, i will take so many things for granted like the prices, it is much cheaper in the US for anything. also, driving will feel great! classes started on the 14th, but the class structure is very disorganized here and we have a different class with a different instructor in a different room every week. i’m sure i’ll get used to it though. this saturday, i am going to oktoberfest in münchen, germany with a bunch of the ICN students. it was very cheap, 40€ round trip bus for the day. i’m quite excited for it, i’ve always wanted to go.
-ciao
i haven’t posted in so long buttttt i leave for france in 11 days….it hasn’t even hit me yet. i’m in the midst of packing everything into 2 suitcases. i’ve been using spacebags and trying to fit all this shit that i need for 10 months…ahhhh! but i will be keeping a weekly blog of my adventures in europe. soooo stay tuned!
